CHICAGO’S SHORELINE SIGHTSEEING ENLARGES FLEET FOR 2006 SEASON
Architecture Cruises, Boat Tours and Water Taxis among Shoreline's Services
APRIL 18, 2006
Chicago, IL: Shoreline Sightseeing, Chicago’s largest boat touring company, has begun their 67th season offering their famous Chicago River Architecture Cruises, Lake Michigan Skyline Boat Tours and colorful Water Taxis. Shoreline celebrated the start of their 2006 season by adding a major touring vessel, Voyageur, to their fleet. Voyageur has been completely outfitted to Shoreline’s specifications and will carry up to 250 passengers on Architecture Cruises and Skyline Boat Tours. Voyageur is the company’s ninth major touring vessel in addition to eight water taxis. Co-owners Chip and Matt Collopy represent the third generation to head the family owned and operated company.
“Our new vessel has a single deck with wooden bench seating and excellent, unobstructed views,” said Matt Collopy, who worked with the shipyard on the re-design of Voyageur. “It will be especially good for Architecture Cruises where open views are so important. Photographers will find it perfect for getting their preferred shots.”
Shoreline expects to carry a mix of local, national and international passengers during their extensive 2006 season which operates spring through fall. “A Shoreline Tour is a tradition with many Chicago families,” said Collopy. “It makes a great centerpiece when planning a day in the city. We usually carry visitors from just about every state as well as many foreign countries. Chicago is well known as a world-class touring destination with many outstanding museums and attractions. Our passengers often tell us Chicago is one of the most exciting and beautiful cities in the United States.”
Shoreline’s Chicago River Architecture Cruises are led by professional guides who point out over 40 famous buildings on the route as they tell the dramatic story of Chicago’s rise from the Great Fire of 1871 to become the acknowledged home of modern American architecture. Shoreline’s famous Skyline Boat tours on Lake Michigan have been a traditional summer outing for visitors as well as generations of Chicagoans since the company began in 1939. Shoreline’s colorful Water Taxis sport names like “Andale, Andale” or “Vamos” – whatever the language, the name means “Let’s Go”. That’s just what the Water Taxis do, providing passengers with fast, convenient and fun transportation from Navy Pier to Sears Tower or to the Museum Campus
