FUN FALL EVENTS INCLUDE FLOATING HAYRIDES AND OCTOBERFEST CRUISES AT CHICAGO’S SHORELINE SIGHTSEEING

September 15, 2006

Chicago, IL: Summer may be officially over, but the fun is just beginning at Shoreline Sightseeing where two special cruises will be running every weekend in October in addition to Shoreline’s regular fall schedule. Shoreline’s Floating Hayride Cruises get in the Halloween-season spirit with decorated boats, seasonal stories for kids of all ages and special treats for children. Shoreline’s 90-minute Octoberfest River Cruises include lunch of brats and beer or soda plus German music and docent commentary on Chicago’s famous architecture as well as the role the German community played in shaping modern Chicago. Both cruises depart from Shoreline’s Navy Pier locations.

“Fall is a busy season in Chicago and we wanted to add some special options for our local and out of town visitors,” said Matt Collopy of Shoreline Sightseeing. “Rather than another haunted house type of event, we decided a Floating Hayride cruise on Lake Michigan would be fun for guests of any age. We’ve got some great stories lined up and keepsake gifts for our young passengers. The Floating Hayrides will include our popular 30 minute Skyline Tour itinerary traveling the length of Chicago’s fabulous lakefront.”

“Our Octoberfest Cruise will be a special 90-minute themed version of our Architecture Cruise,” continued Collopy. “It’s a great opportunity to enjoy a one last beer and brats lunch plus a custom tour and some traditional German music while cruising on the historic Chicago River.”

In addition to their themed fall cruises, Shoreline will be running their usual Skyline Boat Tours weekends through November and their Architecture Cruises daily through October 15th and on weekends through November 27th weather permitting.

Shoreline’s standard one-hour cruises on the historic Chicago River features over 40 gems of modern architecture. Cruises are led by professional guides who detail the dramatic story of Chicago’s rise from the Great Fire of 1871 to become the home of the skyscraper and a leader in the development of modern American architecture. Buildings on the Cruise include works by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Halmut Jahn. Passengers receive a complimentary map/guide that outlines the route. Shoreline’s classic Skyline Boat Tours showcase the city’s dramatic skyline on half-hour Lake Michigan tours. The narrated cruises cover Chicago’s colorful history and famous landmarks.
