SHORELINE WATER TAXIS OFFER FREE COMMUTER
RIDES FOR TWO WEEKS BEGINNING MAY 1 – REDUCES REGULAR FARES
Chicago, IL: Shoreline Sightseeing celebrates the start of their Chicago River Commuter Water Taxi service with two weeks of free rides between their docks at Sears Tower/Union Station and the Michigan Avenue Bridge. Free rides will be available Monday through Friday in either direction, from Friday, May 1 through Friday May 15th in the morning between 7:00 am and 9:30 am and in the evening between 4:00 pm and 6:30 pm.
“It’s a nice way to open our season, especially in the current economy,” said Chip Collopy, vice president and co-owner of Shoreline Sightseeing and Shoreline Water Taxis. “We also lowered our commuter taxi prices for the regular season. Even after the free rides are over, our customers can afford to enjoy their work commute on a Shoreline Water Taxi.” Shoreline Water Taxi’s commuter service operates between Sears Tower/Union Station Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 9:30 am and from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm, May through October. Regular commuter fares between these docks now are $1.50 each way based on round-trip ticket morning purchase and $2.00 for a single one way trip. A 10-ride pass is available for $15.00. The Sears Tower/Union Station dock is located at 200 South Wacker Drive. The Michigan Avenue Dock is located at 401 N. Michigan Avenue, the Northeast corner of the Michigan Avenue Bridge.
Shoreline, which introduced Water Taxis to Chicago in 1996, has a fleet of ten taxis, including two new, 80-passenger taxis — “Giddy-Up”, commissioned and built in 2007 and “Shake-a-Leg,” commissioned and built in 2008.
In addition to their commuter service, Shoreline offers non-commuter Water Taxi service from all dock locations: Sears Tower/Union Station, Michigan Avenue, Navy Pier and Shedd Aquarium/Museum Campus daily from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm from Memorial Day to Labor Day and on weekends continuing through October. Shoreline also operates Architecture Cruises on the Chicago River, Skyline Boat Tours on Lake Michigan and private charters. Founded in 1939, Shoreline now operates the largest fleet of Chicago touring boats with nine major touring vessels and ten water taxis.
